Call to Artists: Garden City, Idaho and Surrounding Area

A. Project Overview: “Garden SITy Art Benches”
The City of Garden City’s Arts Commission will select artists to create art benches for specific sites. Selected artists will be assigned to a location where their bench will be installed by the City. Likely locations include city parks and the Greenbelt. Designs inspired by the specific location are encouraged.
B. GuidelinesBenches must be:
- Carve free
- Not easily broken
- Finished with an anti-graffiti coating
- Not be made of wood or include pieces of wood
The Call to Artists is active until February 1st, 2019 at 5 pm Mountain Time.
Selected artists will receive notification by end of February 2019. Designs must be submitted for approval by March 30th, 2019 and the completed bench must be delivered by July 15th, 2019.
The Budget for this project is $5000. Upon approval of the design, the City of Garden City will pay the artists a 1/2 deposit. The remaining 1/2 will be paid to the artist upon final approval of the completed bench by the Garden City Arts Commission.
E. Submission Instructions - What to Include
Responses will preferably be compiled into one PDF deck, but email submissions with individual files will also be accepted.
Written Response- In a letter, explain why you’re interested in this opportunity. Briefly describe the medium you work in and how it can translate to a bench. Current Contact Information References- Include three references that can speak to your experience Images- Include at least five images of large-scale work you’ve done in the past. Include the location of the work and the date it was completed (either on the image or in a separate, labeled image list).
F. Submission Deadline/Instructions
The deadline for submissions is February 1st, 2019 at 5:00 PM Mountain Standard Time. Submit your response by email with subject line “Garden SITy Art Bench” to Garden City Councilmember, Elfreda Higgins: firstname.lastname@example.org.
